Remembering Great Apes is the third book in the Remembering Wildlife series and by covering gorillas, chimpanzees, bonobos and orangutans, is our most ambitious yet. Once again many of the world’s top wildlife photographers, from Tim Laman to Brent Stirton, Art Wolfe to Frans Lanting, have already answered our call to donate images and the book will feature more than 70 stunning photographs.

Giraffes need our help and attention. So please, once again, help us, to help them.

Unbelievably, there are no major picture books (yet) out there on giraffes and I think this reflects the complacency with which giraffes are viewed. While they always seem to be “just there” on the African plains, they have in fact (to our shame) been facing what has been coined a silent extinction. Over the past 35 years, giraffe numbers have declined by almost 30%. In some regions, populations have fallen by as much as 95%, and over the last three centuries, they’ve lost nearly 90% of their historical range. Despite this, their situation rarely makes the headlines.
At Remembering Wildlife, as always, we want - and already are - trying to change that. Yesterday we gained international media coverage for the 20 competition winners for places in our next title Remembering Giraffes (mock up above), such as this piece in The Independent which includes this quote from me:
“Giraffes are disappearing because of habitat loss, poaching and civil unrest and, because they are quiet, gentle creatures, their decline has gone largely unnoticed. The good news is that, where giraffes are protected, populations can recover. Remembering Giraffes aims to shine a light on the threats affecting giraffes and help ensure that future generations don’t just remember giraffes but see them standing tall in the wild.”
Our mission remains true to how we began. We aim to raise awareness of the plight facing a species and to raise funds for NGOs working to protect them but we CANNOT DO THAT WITHOUT SUPPORT ON KICKSTARTER.
Right now we’re in the final 28 hours of our latest Kickstarter campaign to fund this year’s book which will be, with your support, on giraffes. While we’ve hit our initial funding target, the more we raise now, the more copies we can print and the more profits we’ll eventually generate for those on the frontline. And we're also hoping to raise enough to reprint Remembering Elephants too, which is about to go out of press.
As you supported us before, I hope you don’t mind me reaching out again this time with a personal plea to do so again. It really would mean the world.
Thanks for believing in us!

Our books (and therefore the £1m GBP / $1.3m USD we've been able to raise for conservation so far) are only possible because of the incredible support we receive from the likes of you on Kickstarter each year, so thank you for your previous support and we hope you will be with us once again this year! We have some incredible rewards lined up again, for not only the books themselves of course, but also safaris, artwork, camera gear and many other goodies. But be warned, once the one-off rewards like safaris are snapped up they are gone, and they tend to be very popular, so do sign up now if you want to ensure you get first options!
Thank you again and all the best from the Remembering Wildlife team!
P.S. If you want to read more about many of the donations we've made from the series, take a look here
